HABRI Special Request for Proposals: Pet-Inclusive Rental Housing Research in US

Apply for Housing Estates, Apartment Complexes & Residential Streetscape Program (Ireland)

Deadline: 26-Feb-2026

The Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) has issued a Special Request for Proposals (RFP) to support research that explores the health benefits of human-animal interactions and pet ownership.

This initiative aims to advance understanding of how companion animals positively impact human health and well-being. The focus areas for this RFP include child health and development, healthy aging, mental health and wellness, and physical health outcomes. Additionally, the funding emphasizes research on animal-assisted interventions (AAI) that study the health outcomes of pet ownership. HABRI encourages proposals that investigate underexplored areas such as therapy animal welfare, cross-cultural aspects of the human-animal bond, and the health impacts of animal companionship in diverse or underserved populations.

Desired applicants are U.S. based community-led academic partnerships, advocacy or community groups that conduct research, academic researchers partnered with a community-based group or organization. Researchers from all policy disciplines employing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research designs are eligible, and early-career and nontraditional scholars are encouraged to apply.

International institutions and non-profit organizations are eligible to apply, provided they comply with ethical standards and submission guidelines. Funding decisions are typically announced by mid-August following the review process.
