NOFO: Applied Regulatory Science Research to evaluate Cardiotoxicity of Oncology Therapeutics Clinical Trial Optional (US)

Submit Applications for Small Research Grant Program 2025 (Indonesia)

Deadline: 08-Aug-2025

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) supports applied regulatory science research to enhance the detection and monitoring of cardiotoxicity caused by oncology therapeutics. The initiative aligns with the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence’s mission to ensure safe and effective cancer treatments while addressing cardiovascular risks linked to such therapies.

The funding opportunity encourages research proposals aimed at developing standardized and effective approaches for identifying and tracking cardiotoxic effects. One of the main challenges in this area is the absence of universally accepted definitions for different types and levels of cardiotoxicity. Research is needed to establish clear, evidence-based definitions that can be used consistently across clinical studies and settings.

Proposals may focus on various types of cardiotoxicity such as myocardial dysfunction, arrhythmias, and pericardial diseases. There is a need to create standardized grading systems based on clinical symptoms and diagnostic measures, such as heart failure or left ventricular ejection fraction.

Research areas also include the optimization and standardization of biomarkers and imaging tools to assess cardiac toxicity. Proposals may work to define reliable criteria for measuring cardiac dysfunction and to develop a standardized monitoring plan outlining the timing of cardiac assessments.

Other goals include the development of early detection methods to prevent permanent heart damage, strategies for long-term monitoring of patients exposed to cardiotoxic treatments, and predictive models or algorithms to identify patients at greater risk for cardiac side effects based on genetic, clinical, or treatment factors.

The award ceiling for this opportunity is $500,000. A wide range of organizations are eligible to apply, including public and private higher education institutions, nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) IRS status, small and large businesses, state and local governments, tribal governments, school districts, housing authorities, faith-based and community organizations, and regional organizations. However, foreign organizations and non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply.
