The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund has announced a new initiative in Chittagong, Bangladesh aimed at strengthening the health system by addressing critical human resource gaps in selected health facilities, particularly in disadvantaged and hard-to-reach areas.
This effort seeks to ensure that communities can access continuous and comprehensive Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) and nutrition services through the effective delivery of Essential Service Packages.
The project will focus on improving the quality of care in underserved areas by ensuring that health facilities are fully staffed and equipped to meet local needs. Partner organizations will be responsible for recruiting new personnel or absorbing existing staff into designated health facilities to fill vital gaps in service delivery.
In addition to recruitment, the selected partner will be expected to provide timely monthly salary support and ensure that all health staff deliver high-quality services in accordance with UNICEF’s standards. The initiative aims to not only expand access to healthcare but also raise the overall quality and equity of care available to vulnerable populations in Chittagong.
Through this approach, UNICEF intends to create a sustainable improvement in health systems performance, ensuring that essential reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health services reach even the most isolated communities in the region.
