The Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority invites collaborative research and development projects between Egyptian and Spanish partners to foster innovation, strengthen partnerships, and develop new technological solutions.

The call targets collaborative R&D projects across key sectors including Agriculture and Sustainable Food Production, Sustainable Water Management, Affordable and Inclusive Healthcare, Renewable Energy, Environment, Construction, Transportation, Tourism and Antiquities, and Strategic Industries, addressing topics such as crop and livestock productivity, water treatment and desalination, healthcare innovations, renewable energy and biofuels, sanitation and waste management, advanced construction technologies, railway infrastructure, tourism management, and diverse manufacturing and technology industries.

The project budget must clearly outline costs for each activity, specifying contributions from Egyptian and Spanish partners. No single country can exceed 70% of the total budget, and STDF funding cannot exceed 50% of the global budget. STDF will fund projects with 75,000 to 150,000 Euros, while CDTI will fund eligible Spanish companies according to their conditions. Eligible costs include team salaries, equipment, consumables, travel, publication costs, workshops, and indirect costs, within specified limits.

Eligible proposals must be industry-driven and market-oriented R&D projects, or joint technological cooperation projects between industrial partners such as start-ups, SMEs, and large companies, and universities or research centers in Egypt, collaborating with industrial partners in Spain, focusing on the development or substantial improvement of new products, processes, or services. Projects can last up to two years and should enhance bi-regional cooperation, develop new partnerships, and strengthen existing ones.

Applicants must include at least one qualified Egyptian researcher (Ph.D. holder affiliated with an Egyptian university or research institution), an Egyptian industrial partner, and one qualified Spanish partner, which can be a company with or without an R&D department. Spanish consortia must include at least one company, while Egyptian consortia must include a Ph.D.-holding researcher from a university or research institution. Collaboration with other entities is permitted under STDF’s regulations.

Proposals will undergo independent peer review by both Egyptian and Spanish evaluation panels, and final funding decisions will be made jointly. Evaluation criteria include financial capacity, partnership balance, managerial and technological capacity, methodology, planning, milestones, technological maturity, degree of innovation, market size, competitive advantage, and strategic importance.

The deadline for applications is 3 December 2025.
