Deadline: 17-Oct-2025
The United Bank for Africa is pleased to announce its National Essay Competition to promote the culture of reading, encourage healthy intellectual engagement, and foster academic excellence among students in Nigeria and across Africa.
The competition offers generous rewards, with the winner receiving a N10 million educational grant to any African university, the first runner-up awarded a N7.5 million educational grant, and the second runner-up receiving a N5 million educational grant.
To be eligible, applicants must be Nigerian Senior Secondary School Students and are required to complete the application form, upload a handwritten essay of no more than 750 words, submit a recent passport photograph, and provide a scanned copy of their Birth Certificate, National ID, or International Passport.
All entries will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges comprising professors from reputable Nigerian universities, after which 12 finalists will be shortlisted for the next stage. These finalists will then participate in a second and final round of competition at the UBA Head Office in Lagos, where the top three winners will be selected based on the quality of their final essays.
Applicants should ensure that their submissions are complete and unique, as all incomplete or duplicate entries will be disqualified. Each handwritten essay must have the applicant’s full name clearly written before uploading, and all attachments should be properly titled using the applicant’s name along with the document description. The deadline for applications is 17 November 2025.
