India: Transport4All Challenge – Apply Now!

Deadline: 15-Sep-2025

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced a project aimed at strengthening logistics and support services for refugees and returnees in Burundi.

The initiative will be implemented across several provinces, including Cankuzo, Makamba, Ngozi, Muyinga, Bubanza, Ruyigi, Rutana, and Rumonge, with the overarching goal of ensuring safe, timely, and dignified transport as well as effective delivery of essential goods and services.

The project is built around two core areas. The first focuses on the transport of goods and people. Through effective logistical planning and coordination with transit centers and local authorities, returnees will be safely transported back to their home provinces. Non-food items will also be delivered from warehouses to distribution sites on time, following reliable schedules and operational needs. In addition, refugees will be transported with dignity from entry points to areas identified by UNHCR, reinforcing both humanitarian principles and community reintegration efforts.

The second area emphasizes the management and maintenance of fleets, equipment, and warehouses. Refugees and returnees will receive essential materials and support services in a reliable, cost-effective, and timely manner. This will be achieved by maintaining vehicles, equipment, and other assets at optimal levels to ensure uninterrupted operations. The project also ensures that essential goods and services reach beneficiaries across camps, transit centers, and urban areas without delay.

To strengthen sustainability, the project will implement robust stock, asset, and fuel management systems. These measures aim to optimize resource use, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of fleet utilization.

Through these interventions, UNHCR seeks to create a resilient and sustainable logistics system in Burundi that supports reintegration, safeguards dignity, and strengthens service delivery for refugees and returnees.
