The City of Edmonton has launched the Operating Grant for Indigenous-led Organizations, dedicating $1 million to support not-for-profit Indigenous groups in Edmonton through its Reconciliation Pillar of the Community Safety and Well-Being Strategy.
This grant programme aims to reinforce Indigenous-led work that promotes culture, identity, healing, training, and economic security among First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
Eligible applicants are Indigenous-led not-for-profit organizations operating within Edmonton and must demonstrate that Indigenous people hold a majority of board, management, staff and volunteers. The funding can cover up to 25 % of an organization’s eligible operating expenses, with a maximum grant of $50,000. The scope of support includes activities such as cultural revival, a safe and inclusive space for Indigenous communities, training and employment initiatives, and leadership in healing from historical trauma.
Organisations interested in applying can participate in an information session that offers guidance on eligibility, the application process and budget preparation.
This grant presents a significant opportunity for Indigenous-led organizations in Edmonton to access core funding that supports operations, culture and community impact. It is designed to strengthen organizational sustainability, increase Indigenous leadership and advance reconciliation through meaningful investment in community-driven work.
