Deadline: 18-Nov-2025
The Strengthening Communities Multicultural Grants (SCMG) program, offering funding for projects that engage culturally and linguistically diverse communities, including migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and Australian South Sea Islander peoples.
The program supports efforts to build an inclusive, harmonious, and united Queensland by encouraging initiatives that increase understanding, participation, and connection across diverse communities.
The objective of the SCMG program, in alignment with the Multicultural Queensland Charter, is to provide funding for projects that support the economic and social aspirations of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including young people. It also aims to enhance and empower communities to address emerging issues and improve access to services, increase the cultural capability of services supporting diverse communities, and strengthen the capacity of general community groups to connect people from diverse backgrounds into a wide range of community activities.
The SCMG program uses an outcomes-based model, meaning applicants are expected to demonstrate measurable changes resulting from their project, such as improved intercultural connections, enhanced skills, or greater community confidence. Funding is available in two categories under each funding round. Category 1, Empowering Multicultural Community (EMC) projects, supports innovative and strategic initiatives that address barriers and create opportunities for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, fostering more inclusive, resilient, and cohesive communities. Category 2, Youth and Community Connection (Y&CC) projects, focuses on initiatives that help break down barriers for young people from diverse backgrounds who may feel disengaged or disconnected, enabling them to feel heard, valued, supported, and empowered. Both categories offer one-off funding of up to $100,000.
Eligible applicants include not-for-profit or charitable organisations registered in Australia, local government bodies, state school P&C associations, charitable institutions formed through legislation, and Queensland universities. Organisations must hold an active ABN, be based in Queensland, and have no overdue reports or performance issues under prior funding from the department. Successful applicants must comply with funding agreements, including terms and conditions, public liability insurance, and acknowledging the support of the Queensland Government on promotional material.
Applicants are encouraged to review the program guidelines, sample forms, and access support if needed, with all submissions required via the online SmartyGrants portal. This program presents an exciting chance for organisations to strengthen multicultural engagement, empower young people, and contribute to a more connected and inclusive Queensland community.
