Deadline: 17-November -2025
The Rand Water Foundation is inviting proposals from qualified non-governmental and community-based organizations to partner in expanding access to safe water, dignified sanitation, and improved hygiene practices in vulnerable communities.
The Foundation is working toward establishing itself as a national Centre of Excellence in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector by integrating infrastructure development, community empowerment, and behavioral change initiatives. Through partnerships, the Foundation seeks to improve drinking water access, prevent contamination of water sources, promote sanitation and hygiene, and strengthen water resource management while advancing community resilience and socio-economic development.
A core component of this call focuses on sustainable water supply interventions in rural and underserved communities. Selected partners will support efforts to address chronic water shortages through the provision of reliable water systems. This will include the drilling and equipping of new boreholes, installation of purification systems, construction of tank stands and communal taps, and ensuring that all works meet structural and regulatory standards. The initiative will be implemented in the Emfuleni, Rand West City, and Victor Khanye Local Municipalities. All infrastructure must be accompanied by quality testing, safety compliance, proper drainage, and documentation before and after installation.
In addition to water supply projects, the call also covers the maintenance of wastewater treatment plants for a period of one month across four municipal sites. Maintenance tasks include grass cutting and general site upkeep to support the continued functioning of critical sanitation systems. Organizations selected for this work must demonstrate compliance with safety procedures, including providing a full safety file, trained safety personnel, valid medical fitness certifications, and a trained first aider on site.
Eligible applicants include NGOs, NPOs, and NPCs with at least two years of operational experience and a track record of working in community development or WASH-related activities. Interested organizations must submit a comprehensive proposal including organizational registration documents, tax clearance certificates, board member details, financial reports, project methodology, budget, proof of bank account, and reference letters demonstrating relevant past work. Attendance at mandatory site briefings is a requirement prior to submission.
Through this partnership call, the Rand Water Foundation aims to expand sustainable WASH services, support community well-being, and promote cleaner, healthier environments while building durable collaborations with civil society organizations. This initiative reflects the Foundation’s belief that safe water and sanitation are essential rights and that lasting impact is achieved when solutions are carried out in partnership with the communities they serve.
