Deadline: 11-Feb-2026

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is inviting applications for its System Innovations Grant, a long-term funding opportunity designed to drive meaningful and sustainable change for youth across Ontario.

The program aims to strengthen community systems by supporting innovative, collaborative projects that improve outcomes for young people between the ages of 12 and 29.

The System Innovations Grant provides funding for projects lasting from a minimum of two years to a maximum of five years. Applicants may request up to $1,250,000 over five years, or $250,000 per year, depending on the scope and scale of their project. All expenses covered by the grant must be eligible, directly linked to project activities, and consistent with the organization’s detailed project plan.

Eligible lead organizations must have a strong presence and proven track record of delivering programs that directly benefit communities in Ontario. To qualify, organizations must be incorporated as not-for-profits for at least five years at the time of application, demonstrate sound financial management, and have a clear mandate for engaging and serving youth. First Nations, Métis, and Inuit organizations, as well as registered charities and other not-for-profit entities, are all eligible to apply, provided they meet the outlined criteria.

However, certain groups are not eligible to apply as lead organizations. These include individuals, municipalities, universities, schools, hospitals, religious institutions, newly formed organizations under five years old, and for-profit businesses. The grant is specifically targeted at organizations that exist to provide community-based programs and services for youth in Ontario.

Projects funded through the System Innovations Grant must align with one of the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) priority outcomes. These outcomes focus on addressing systemic barriers and promoting equity among youth populations. Approved projects will aim to support youth in or leaving care and those involved in the justice system, address racism and its impacts on young people, empower girls and young women to lead and achieve economic independence, and help Indigenous, Black, and newcomer youth access employment and sustainable career pathways. Additionally, initiatives that create safe spaces for Indigenous and Black youth to strengthen their community and cultural connections are highly encouraged.

Each proposed project must clearly identify the youth population it intends to serve, considering their specific identities, experiences, and locations. This includes Indigenous youth from urban, rural, and on-reserve communities, ensuring that the grant supports diverse voices and needs across Ontario.

Through the System Innovations Grant, the Ontario Trillium Foundation seeks to catalyze systemic change, empower youth leadership, and build stronger, more inclusive communities that support the well-being and success of young people throughout the province.
