The First Peoples Grant Stream is now open to support First People-led projects that celebrate Aboriginal culture, promote self-determination, strengthen community leadership, and contribute to reconciliation in Moonee Valley. The program aligns with the Bagarru Bagarru Djerring (Shoulder to Shoulder Together) Reconciliation Plan 2022–2025 and funds initiatives that create positive outcomes for First Peoples and the wider community.
Focus Areas
The grant supports projects that enhance awareness, celebration, and engagement with Aboriginal culture and language; address discrimination and racism; build respect and trust through partnerships between community and government; strengthen governance by amplifying Aboriginal voices and developing community leadership; support economic participation through Aboriginal businesses and employment opportunities; and improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal People.
Funding Information
The First Peoples Grant Stream has a total funding pool of AUD 10,000 per financial year.
Eligible applicants may apply for up to AUD 10,000.
Applications are accepted twice each year, and applicants may receive one grant per financial year across all funding rounds and grant streams.
Program Objectives
The program aims to support First People-led initiatives that strengthen Aboriginal culture, encourage self-determination, build community leadership, and advance reconciliation within Moonee Valley. It also seeks to foster stronger partnerships and create opportunities that improve social, cultural, economic, and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be First Peoples who live, work, or have a demonstrated connection to Moonee Valley.
First People-led organisations or businesses with a demonstrated connection to Moonee Valley are also eligible to apply.
Organisations or businesses that are not incorporated or do not have an Australian Business Number (ABN) must apply through an auspice organisation.
Applicants are not eligible if they have outstanding debts or unresolved financial or legal disputes with the City of Moonee Valley, have existing Community Grants still in progress, are seeking funding for projects that have already commenced, do not hold Public Liability Insurance where required, have values inconsistent with the Council’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, have engaged in abusive behaviour towards Council officers, or have attempted to influence Councillors, assessors, or Council officers during the grant process.
