NICWA Champion for Native Children Award in United States and Canada

Apply for Project Support Facility (PSF) Societal Resilience Program

Deadline: 05-Jan-2026

The Champion for Native Children Award recognises individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to the well-being of Indigenous children, families, and communities in the United States and Canada.

Nominees may include social workers, case managers, foster parents, or emerging leaders whose contributions have had a meaningful impact on Tribal child welfare, children’s mental health, or juvenile justice in Tribal communities.

Candidates are acknowledged for their excellence, creativity, and leadership in driving positive change, as well as their advocacy on behalf of Indigenous children and families. Contributions can include the development or promotion of programs and policies that support tribes, children, and families, or efforts to strengthen the Indian Child Welfare Act and related protections.

Nominees may also be recognized for securing funding to implement programs and policies that enhance the lives of Indigenous children and families, or for a significant body of work that spans several years or even a lifetime. This award highlights individuals and organizations whose ongoing commitment not only improves the well-being of Native children but also reinforces Tribal sovereignty and the long-term resilience of their communities.

This recognition provides a platform to celebrate the dedication and achievements of those who are making a lasting difference, shining a light on their work and inspiring others in the field of Indigenous child and family welfare.
