Call for EOIs: Women’s Empowerment in the Small-Scale Agri-Food Value Chain (Togo)

Up to €300,000 in Equity-free Funding available for Food Startups, SMEs & Researchers

Deadline: 16-Oct-2025

The World Food Programme (WFP) is rolling out an initiative in the Savanes and Kara regions of Togo to strengthen women’s livelihoods through sustainable agricultural practices and improved market access.

This effort aims to build resilience and empower women as leaders in their communities by supporting their participation across the agricultural value chain.

The program begins with a comprehensive needs assessment to identify the specific types of support required by each targeted group. Based on these findings, 1,800 women will be trained in sustainable agricultural techniques, agri-food processing, and the management of community-led initiatives. These skills will ensure that women can enhance productivity, adopt environmentally responsible methods, and strengthen their ability to manage and sustain agricultural projects.

To create stronger structures of collaboration and impact, the initiative will establish and reinforce 180 women’s cooperatives and groups. Alongside this, 180 small-scale agri-food processing units will be set up, enabling women to add value to agricultural products, diversify their income sources, and contribute to food security within their communities.

Access to critical resources—including inputs, equipment, and financing—will be improved for all beneficiaries, helping them to overcome barriers that often hinder productivity. The program also places emphasis on strengthening women’s access to local and regional markets by fostering their participation in agricultural networks and platforms. This increased visibility and market integration will allow women to generate sustainable livelihoods and expand their influence in regional trade.

Finally, the project seeks to reinforce women’s leadership within agricultural organizations by providing support for them to apply for positions of responsibility. By encouraging women to take on decision-making roles, the program not only empowers individuals but also contributes to building inclusive, equitable systems within the agricultural sector.

Through this multifaceted approach, WFP’s initiative in Togo will improve livelihoods, strengthen community resilience, and promote women’s empowerment as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
