Call for Expressions of Interest: Agricultural Research in India

Apply for Wellcome Career Development Award Scheme

Deadline: 25-Jul-2025

Grow Further is inviting expressions of interest for bold agricultural research projects that aim to improve nutrition, enhance climate resilience, and increase incomes for smallholder farmers. The initiative encourages proposals that align with at least one of Grow Further’s core focus areas.

In the area of nutrition, the program seeks research that improves nutritional outcomes through biofortification or the cultivation of nutrient-rich crops, vegetables, legumes, fruits, or fish.

For climate resilience, the focus is on developing solutions that address challenges such as drought, pests, salinity, and other environmental stressors, particularly for farmers operating in marginal conditions. Innovations related to improved water management or techniques adapted to harsh environments are also welcome.

Under farm income, proposals should aim to boost smallholder earnings through higher-value or better-quality agricultural products or through cost-saving innovations.

Successful applicants may receive funding ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 per year for a period of two to five years. Eligibility is limited to legally registered Indian organizations with the capacity for field-based agricultural research.

This includes institutions such as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which is expected to have an MoU with Grow Further in place at the time of grant awards, universities, India-based campuses of CGIAR and AIRCA centers, and nonprofit organizations with demonstrated research capabilities and authorization to receive funds from U.S.-based donors, such as having an FCRA registration.

Applicants must be legally established in India, eligible to receive U.S.-based funding, and possess in-house capacity to conduct impactful agricultural research.

The emphasis should be on scientific innovation with practical, scalable solutions for smallholder farmers.

However, projects that focus solely on social sciences, development programs, or agricultural extension services are not eligible for consideration.
