Call for Tenders: Foundation for German-American Academic Relations Program

Postcode Society Trust Grants for Charities in the UK (£25,000)

Deadline: 29-Aug-2025

The International Union for Conservation of Nature is calling for research proposals focused on transatlantic relations or issues important to both sides of the Atlantic. The Foundation aims to strengthen ties between scholars in Germany and North America, believing such collaboration benefits both science and transatlantic relations.

The SDAW welcomes innovative research projects covering political, economic, and social aspects of transatlantic relations. This year, proposals addressing current and future transatlantic security relations are especially encouraged.

Funding typically ranges from €5,000 to €10,000, with exceptional cases eligible for up to €20,000. The call primarily targets social sciences such as political science, international relations, sociology, law, and history, but related disciplines contributing meaningfully to the project are also invited.

Research teams should consist either exclusively of early career researchers—like doctoral students, postdocs, or pre-tenure professors—or a mix of junior and established scholars. The program particularly encourages active participation from early-career researchers in both Germany and North America.

Proposals must involve collaboration between researchers from North America and Germany, with joint development and implementation by teams from both regions. Researchers from other European countries may join as part of the team, provided the collaboration focuses on Germany and North America.

Funding can support the initiation or implementation of larger research collaborations, the organization of workshops or conferences to prepare scientific contributions, and book incubators aimed at helping younger researchers with their first books through expert feedback from Germany and North America.
