Deadline: 11-Nov-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a partner to support an initiative aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the Toledo district of Belize.
The partnership will focus on promoting climate-smart agricultural practices and improving post-harvest management, with the goal of helping farmers adapt to changing environmental conditions and reduce crop losses. Through training and access to key resources, the program will enhance farmers’ skills and support more resilient food production systems within Indigenous and rural communities.
A key aspect of the project involves community engagement and participatory targeting. The selected partner will work closely with local governance bodies, including village councils and traditional leaders, to conduct transparent and inclusive selection processes. This will result in a validated list of 200 eligible farmers from San Miguel and San Pedro Columbia, with special attention given to ensuring that women, youth, and Indigenous farmers are meaningfully included.
The partner will also support the delivery of farmer training sessions, focusing on climate-smart agriculture, improved post-harvest handling, and basic agribusiness skills. Training materials and logistics will be organized to maximize accessibility and community participation, ensuring that sessions are culturally relevant and practical for local conditions.
In addition to training, farmers will receive vouchers that can be used to access agricultural inputs such as seeds, tools, and supplies. The partner will assist in coordinating voucher distribution, supporting farmer awareness, and liaising with suppliers. Feedback collected during this process will be communicated through WFP’s Community Feedback Mechanism to ensure transparency and responsiveness.
All activities will emphasize inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and gender awareness. The partner will document participation and outcomes, providing reports, attendance records, and communication materials to WFP to support monitoring and visibility. By improving knowledge and access to resources, this partnership aims to empower farmers to build more resilient livelihoods and strengthen food security in Toledo.
