Over Hundred Research Projects across Canada to benefit from $158 million Funding

SEARCA launches Travel Grants Program

Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Honourable Kirsty Duncan has announced more than $158 million in funding for over 800 research projects across Canada which will fund research projects on education, immigration, youth, Indigenous arts leadership and climate change.

The projects will give us a greater understanding of the world around us and provide the government with evidence to make sound policy decisions about what Canadians care most about: their families and communities, health and environment, and jobs.

Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Honourable Kirsty Duncan said, “Thanks to the work of the hundreds of researchers being recognized today, Canadians can gain a better understanding of the world we live in. It is my honour to support these talented researchers and help them push the boundaries of knowledge that will mean a better environment, better health, better society, and a better economy for all Canadians.”

The funding is being awarded through grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), one of the three federal granting councils responsible for supporting the researchers and scholars who are strengthening science and evidence-based decision-making, while nurturing a culture of curiosity in Canada.

The minister made the announcement at the University of Regina, where she is attending the annual Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Canada’s largest gathering of scholars. During the event, the minister highlighted the largest investment in fundamental research in Canadian history through Budget 2018, and spoke of the importance of social sciences and humanities research in improving the well-being of Canadians.
