Deadline: 4 May 2020

The Women’s International Peace Centre (The Peace Centre) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and Quotations to Conduct Desk Research on Women, Peace and Justice in the Great Lakes Region.

Women’s International Peace Centre (The Peace Centre) formerly Isis-Women’s International Cross-Cultural Exchange (Isis–WICCE) is a feminist organization with a mission to ignite women’s leadership, through amplifying women’s voices and deepening their activism to (re)create peace.  Since 1996, The Peace Centre/Isis-WICCE has researched and documented the critical yet often-neglected experiences and perspectives of women in conflict and post-conflict situations, providing important data and information on women, peace and security. This research has been conducted in 27 countries including 15 countries in Africa.

Research Goal and Objectives

Methodology

The researcher(s) will be expected to propose a methodology that is suitable for the desk research covering Central African Republic, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Uganda

Assignment Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

Justification

There is a wide spectrum of legal and policy frameworks for the promotion of women’s participation in transitional justice, peace and security within region. This has not translated into full realization of their effective participation in processes at all levels. There is need for acceleration and implementation of the progressive frameworks to translate them into realization of the Women Peace and Security Agenda.

This requires addressing the deep-rooted gender disparities and injustices in social, economic, political and civil rights, which hinder their effective participation and realization of their rights. The uniqueness of the women, peace and security agenda is in its potential to promote the full, equitable and meaningful participation of women at all levels of decision-making on all matters of traditional justice, peace and security. Integration of WPS in conflict prevention requires that a thorough gender analysis of root causes of conflict, drivers and actors be conducted in order to inform a long-term response to peace consolidation and also taking into account the 20 years anniversary of the UNSCR 1325. This will ensure their effective participation and design intervention for coordination in sectors of political, security, development, human rights and gender equality.
