Deadline: 01-May-2026
The American-Indonesian Cultural and Educational Foundation grants scholarships to Indonesian PhD students currently enrolled in an accredited US university or college for their dissertation research in Indonesia.
These travel grants are typically $3,000. This grant provides crucial financial support to enable Indonesian doctoral students to conduct their research in their home country, fostering both academic growth and contributions to Indonesia’s development. By supporting travel and research costs, the program ensures that students can focus on their fieldwork and make significant progress on their dissertation while maintaining strong ties to Indonesia.
General Requirements include being an Indonesian citizen and not a permanent resident of the US, currently enrolled in a doctoral program in the United States, demonstrating a strong commitment to returning to Indonesia upon completion of the post-doctoral program, having preparation in and a demonstrated commitment to their chosen field of study, and demonstrating that they can realistically accomplish the research in Indonesia.
Submission Requirements include a Scholarship Application, the most recent official transcript of grades, a letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor, a copy of the front page of the passport, a copy of the passport visa (J1 or F1), and enrollment verification certifying that the applicant is in good academic standing at their university.
Applicants are required to complete the scholarship application in full online and may include additional information such as a CV or resume either through upload or by mailing it to the Foundation. Transcripts must be sent by the school directly via email. The letter of recommendation request is sent automatically to the faculty advisor, but applicants may also coordinate with their advisor to send the letter directly on university letterhead. U.S. immigration documents, including pictures of the current I-20 form and passport visa, must be uploaded during the application process.
Enrollment verification certifying good academic standing and completion of all Ph.D. requirements except the dissertation should be provided by the faculty advisor or department head. Applicants are also asked to provide an estimate of expenses and resources related only to the period of travel and research in Indonesia.
