Apply for the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant (India)

Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine announces Small Grants Program

Deadline: 31-Aug-2025

The Inlaks Research and Travel Grant supports registered PhD students at Indian universities who wish to undertake short-term visits to institutions abroad. The grant allows them to collect research material, use academic facilities, and consult international experts in their field of study. It is specifically available to PhD scholars in the humanities and social sciences.

This grant supports a research visit of up to three months. Selected candidates will receive a travel allowance of up to USD 1,000, a monthly maintenance allowance of up to USD 2,000, and up to USD 500 each for buying research materials and health-related expenses. All reimbursements will be based on actual expenses. Any materials purchased or collected during the visit will become the property of the scholar’s home institution.

Applicants must be Indian passport holders residing in India and born on or after January 1, 1990. They must be registered PhD candidates at Indian universities for at least two years but not more than three years at the time of applying. A first-class Bachelor’s and Master’s degree is required. Candidates must also provide proof of communication with the international experts they intend to consult.

The research visit must be completed within nine months from the date of the award. After returning, recipients are expected to submit a detailed report to the Inlaks Foundation and ensure that all materials collected include a statement acknowledging the grant’s support. These materials should also be accessible for future scholars at the recipient’s institution.

Candidates can only apply for either the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant or the Inlaks-Kings India Institute Studentship in a single year. The selection process includes an initial application review followed by an online interview with a panel. Shortlisted applicants will be notified by the last week of September 2025, and final interviews will take place in early October 2025.
