Deadline: 10-Aug-2025
The Japan Foundation Bangkok is inviting applications for its Small Grant Program, which supports cultural and intellectual exchange projects between Japan and Thailand.
There are two categories of eligible projects. Category A supports events in Thailand related to Japanese arts, culture, and Japanese studies. These may include art exhibitions, performances, film screenings, joint research, conferences, and intensive courses that promote understanding of Japan. Category B supports collaborative projects between Japanese and Thai professionals in fields such as culture, arts, or intellectual exchange. These projects must focus on developing the next generation through exchange and collaboration, such as through workshops, lectures, exhibitions, or joint research.
In Category A, priority is given to projects that deepen understanding of Japanese culture and promote Japanese studies in the humanities or social sciences. For both categories, joint research and conferences that lead to publications are encouraged. Preference is also given to new or innovative initiatives, rather than projects based on long-standing partnerships.
Grants are awarded on a cost-sharing basis. The Japan Foundation Bangkok will contribute up to 50,000 Baht for Category A and up to 100,000 Baht for Category B. Eligible expenses include travel costs, honoraria, accommodation, venue and equipment rentals, and production of printed materials. The grant cannot be used for regular staff salaries, entertainment expenses, communication costs, or office supplies.
Eligible applicants must be non-profit organizations based in Thailand, such as universities, academic associations, NGOs, or suitable art spaces. Projects must take place in Thailand and be completed within one Japanese fiscal year, which runs from April 1 to March 31. Applicants must also have a bank account that can accept the grant.
The program is not open to individuals or for-profit organizations. Organizations that have received support from this program for three consecutive years are not eligible for a fourth year. Projects that are ineligible include those focused only on natural sciences, Japanese language education, commercial or political activities, religious missions, or campaigns. Funding will also not be given for capital purchases, land or building projects, weapons development, or equipment procurement.
