Applications are open for Ulysses programme that is designed to support new research collaborations between Irish and French researchers.
The aim of the Ulysses scheme is to foster new collaborations between researchers in Ireland and France, by funding reciprocal travel visits between the two research groups over the course of one year. The longer term goal is to establish lasting professional networks of researchers and institutes. The programme provides ‘seed-funding’ to begin collaboration.
The Irish Research Council (the Council) will fund applications across all fields of research. Proposals concerning patient oriented research, population health or health services research will be processed by the Council and funded by the Health Research Board.
Programme Benefits
- The project will involve researcher(s) based in Ireland travelling to France and researcher(s) based in France travelling to Ireland. Expenses for the researchers based in Ireland will be funded by The Irish Research Council or the Health Research Board where appropriate. The researchers based in France will be funded by Campus France, on behalf of the French Embassy.
- The award made by each agency is up to a maximum of €2,500 to cover travel and living expenses. These awards are simultaneously receivable.
- Overnight subsistence rates for researcher(s) based in Ireland travelling to France must be calculated in accordance with Irish civil service rates.
- Awards must begin in the calendar year 2017 and are tenable for 12 months after the start-date.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Irish partner(s) include academic researchers in a third level institution or publicly funded research institution. However, applications must be submitted by a person authorised by their institution to hold responsibility for research grants.
- Eligible French partner(s) include academic researchers and staff in an academic institute, research institute or facility, or the R&D unit of a private company.
- Applicants who are also past awardees under this scheme must include with their application a short synopsis (maximum 1 page) outlining the current status of the co-operation, the outputs already obtained and those anticipated in the future.
- Applicants who are past awardees under this scheme must highlight new French partners, and/or new areas of research with respect to previously funded applications.
- Applicants who are past awardees under this scheme on three or more previous occasions will be considered only if the budget is not be fully allocated.
- The scheme is open only to researchers resident in Ireland or France. There are no nationality or citizenship requirements.
How to Apply
- Applicants must submit one electronic copy of an application form and all related attachments to the Council via email at the address given on the website.
- Applicants are required to submit one hard-copy of application form and all related attachments to the Council via postal mail.
