Call for EOIs: Partners for EV Charging & Battery Management in Tanzania

#image_title

Deadline: 31-Aug-2025

UN-Habitat is calling for Expressions of Interest from academic or research institutions, non-profit organizations, and governmental or inter-governmental bodies to conduct a research activity using a mix of primary and secondary methods such as surveys, interviews, statistical data, and market reports.

This effort supports the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, which promotes smart, clean, and secure infrastructure globally. In Tanzania, the initiative funds the Port of Dar Es Salaam – Trade and Transport Improvement Project, aimed at improving performance in the trade and transport sector. The project supports more efficient and sustainable services in the port, urban areas, and hinterland corridors, while advancing a low-carbon transport system and strengthening regional competitiveness.

As part of this initiative, the collaboration will lead to the development and publication of a comprehensive report on Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure and Battery End-of-Life (EoL) Management in Tanzania. The report will guide future planning by addressing EV charging demands, urban mobility integration, grid readiness, and land-use planning.

To validate the findings and promote dialogue, a stakeholder workshop will also be organized. The event will help gather insights, explore scalable solutions, and serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and disseminating results.

UN-Habitat will provide funding of USD 28,000. Applicants must also reference their own contributions, whether in cash or in-kind. The project is expected to begin by 15 October 2025 and be completed by 31 December 2027.

The research will assess the current state and distribution of EV charging infrastructure, analyze public vs. private facilities, and identify optimal locations for charging hubs for two- and three-wheelers. It will include spatial analysis to match supply with demand, a review of key market players (local and international), and an evaluation of battery reuse, recycling, and disposal practices.

The study will also review relevant policy and regulatory developments, identify challenges, map growth opportunities, and predict future trends in EV infrastructure and EoL battery management in Tanzania.

Applicants must include details about their experience in sustainable mobility and EV infrastructure, a conceptual proposal outlining their approach, target groups, methodology, challenges, and innovation. They should also specify their financial or in-kind contributions, supported by recent annual budgets, reports, audited financials, and information about their governance, staff qualifications, and facilities.
