Call for EOIs: Research on Masculinities and GBV/CEFM, and Developing an Approach to Engage Men and Boys in Preventing GBV/CEFM

Call for Submissions: Canon Foundation Research Fellowships

Deadline: 31-Jul-2025

The United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) is inviting applications for a research initiative focused on masculinities and gender-based violence (GBV), including child, early, and forced marriage (CEFM).

The project also aims to develop a gender-transformative approach to engaging men and boys in the prevention of GBV and CEFM across the Philippines, Cambodia, and Lao PDR.

This cross-sectoral research will emphasize the critical role of engaging men and boys in promoting gender equality and preventing violence.

The work is expected to generate deeper insights into the social, cultural, and contextual factors that contribute to harmful masculinities and related forms of violence.

An indicative budget of $80,000 has been allocated for this initiative.

The outcomes are expected to include an improved understanding of the drivers of GBV and CEFM, which will help inform advocacy efforts and future program design.

A key objective is to develop a gender-transformative prevention model that can be adapted and implemented at the community level.

The project seeks to deliver two main results. First, the creation of a solid, evidence-based research report that supports advocacy and informs regional strategies addressing harmful masculinities. Second, the development of a prevention approach that leads to measurable reductions in GBV and CEFM in target communities.

The geographical focus of this initiative includes Bolikhamxai in Lao PDR, Kampong Chhnang in Cambodia, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in the Philippines.
