Call for Proposals: ARISC Small Grant Program

British Council’s Connections Through Culture Grants 2025

Deadline: 05-Dec-2025

The American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC) has announced the availability of Small Grants in support of research in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia).

The purpose of the grant is to help offset research costs for student scholars in the South Caucasus. Grantees are expected to give an ARISC-sponsored presentation in English on a subject related to their research upon completion of their project. The grantee will acknowledge ARISC in any publication or presentation that emerges from the research carried out during the grant.

Research awards will be made for up to $500 each, to help cover transportation, lodging, meals and incidental expenses, and other expenses needed to support a scholar’s research in the South Caucasus. ARISC expects to award up to three Small Grants in 2025-26.

Projects in all fields in the social sciences, humanities, and related sciences are eligible. Applicants must be Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. students enrolled in degree-granting programs in Armenia, Azerbaijan, or Georgia, and students graduating in spring 2026 are eligible to apply. Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Georgian citizens are eligible. Project proposals by Master’s and Ph.D. students are especially encouraged, but all strong proposals will be given full consideration.

All proposals will be judged on their quality and on the potential of the research to strengthen scholarship on the South Caucasus. The selection panel, composed of scholars with regional and trans-regional research experience, will assess proposals on significance, relevance, potential contribution, applicant qualifications, research design, feasibility, and language proficiency, where applicable.

Applicants must submit an application form, a project statement of not more than 1500 words outlining the research question, design, methodology, significance, relevance, potential contribution, qualifications, and anticipated obstacles, a work schedule specifying days, hours, and locations for research, an itemized budget and budget narrative, a curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation submitted directly to ARISC.

The deadline for applications is 5 December 2025.
