Call for Submissions: Creation Grant program (Canada)

US: Capacity Building Grant for Small Nonprofits ($20,000 Unrestricted Grant)

Deadline: 01-Oct-2025

The Creation Grant program supports professional artists in New Brunswick by funding the research, development, and execution of original art projects. It aims to give artists time and financial resources to focus on their creative work. Artists may use the grant to pursue new ideas, experiment with techniques, or complete a new body of work.

There are two categories for applicants. The “Artist” category is for those with over five years of professional experience. The “Artist – Early Career” category is for artists with up to five years of experience. The grant offers up to $20,000 for established artists and up to $12,000 for early-career artists.

Eligible expenses include subsistence or artist fees, typically around $2,500 per month per artist, though this may vary based on the project. Other eligible costs include consumable materials, space or equipment rental, professional services, production expenses, commissions, and rights purchases. Travel and accommodation related to the project are also covered. Equipment purchases are eligible up to a maximum of $1,500.

The grant cannot be used for capital expenses like studio purchases or renovations, administrative costs, or promotional materials such as marketing, invitations, or portfolios. The focus of the project must be on the creation of new artwork rather than sales or public promotion. Artists and collaborators must retain full creative control of the work.

Projects must begin at least one day after the application is submitted. Collaborative or multi-artist projects must include additional documentation. All artistic disciplines are eligible, including architecture, craft, dance, literary arts, media arts, multidisciplinary arts, music, theatre, and visual arts.

Projects done for academic credit, within non-professional contexts, or as part of a job in education, media, or corporate sectors are not eligible. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or affiliated with a First Nation on Turtle Island. They must have lived in New Brunswick for at least one year and meet artsnb’s definition of a professional artist. Any previous grant recipients must have submitted their final reports.

Artists may receive a maximum of two grants under the early-career category. After that, they must apply under the regular Artist category. Each application must include a project description of up to 500 words, a balanced budget, artist CV, samples of work, and, for collaborative projects, a CV and letter of agreement from each collaborator.
