Deadline: 15-Oct-2025
The Creative New Zealand is inviting applications for its Development Fund to provide support for Artists and Practitioners.
The grant supports activities such as research, training, coaching, mentoring, and attending workshops, conferences, wānanga or talanoa, whether nationally or internationally. It does not provide funding for creative projects or new work.
There is $600,000 available through each round of the fund in 2025, distributed across the General arts, Ngā toi Māori, and Pacific arts funding pools. Applicants can apply for up to $5,000, which is the maximum amount regardless of whether applying as an individual or as a group of collaborators. The grant can support fees and costs related to development activities and can also be used to purchase capital items if they are necessary and provide long-term benefits to an applicant’s professional or creative growth.
Artists and practitioners who are New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible to apply, either individually or as a group of collaborators. If a grant was received in 2024, the funded activities must be completed and the project completion report submitted before applying again.
However, those who received a Development Fund for Artists and Practitioners grant earlier in 2025 cannot apply to the September funding round. Arts organisations and groups are not eligible to apply. Permanent, full-time staff members of Toi Tōtara Haemata or Toi Uru Kahikatea investment organisations are also ineligible, though part-time permanent employees working up to 20 hours per week may apply for development activities outside of their organisation. Applicants who receive a grant through the Professional Development stream of the Asian Artists’ Fund in 2025 are also not eligible for this round.
Creative New Zealand staff assess how well your proposed activities expand your skills and knowledge, demonstrate good planning, align with your current stage of development, benefit your creative and professional practice, and positively impact your career. Applications close on 15 October 2025.
