Deadline: 28-Nov-2025
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) invites eligible Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to submit joint research proposals under the 202 Green ERAHUB Call on “Sustainable production and the utilisation of biomass.”.
It’s important to note that not all topics within the Central Call’s wider scope may receive funding from DAFM, and applicants should only seek support for those areas that are explicitly included in DAFM’s priorities.
In addition to standard research funding, Teagasc may also support projects under this Call through the Walsh Scholarship programme. This funding is available exclusively for four-year PhD scholarships valued at €100,000. This includes a stipend of €25,000 per year and a maximum of €6,000 annually for fees. Institutions eligible to apply for the Walsh Scholarships must fall under the scope of Section One of the Higher Education Authority (HEA) Act, 1971, including universities, institutes of technology, and Teagasc itself.
Where a proposal does not involve a Teagasc staff member as an applicant, it is mandatory to identify a permanent Teagasc staff member who will act as a co-supervisor for the PhD student. The name of this co-supervisor must be included in the Budget Comments section of the proposal, along with a confirmation that they have agreed to take on this role. This ensures proper oversight and alignment with Teagasc’s research standards.
Only eligible Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) may apply for funding under this Call, either as project coordinators or partners. Eligible RPOs include institutions covered by Section One of the HEA Act, 1971, as well as Teagasc, the Marine Institute, Irish Cattle Breeding Federation, the National Botanic Gardens, Birdwatch Ireland, and Indigo Rock Marine Research Station. However, public RPOs based in Northern Ireland are not eligible to receive national funding under this scheme.
All research institutions must already hold approved RPO status at the time the Call is launched. Project partners must either be permanent staff members of an eligible RPO or qualified researchers holding a PhD and contracted to work with the RPO for the full duration of the project. This requirement ensures continuity, commitment, and the expertise necessary to deliver high-quality research outcomes aligned with national priorities.
