The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has launched the J. C. Bose Grant to recognize and support active senior scientists and engineers in India for outstanding research performance and contributions across all domains of science and engineering.
Purpose and Objectives

Acknowledge excellence in scientific research and engineering

Encourage senior researchers to pursue frontline research and extra-mural funding

Strengthen India’s research ecosystem by supporting projects in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and interdisciplinary areas including humanities and social sciences linked to technology
Funding and Duration

Total financial support: Rs. 25 lakhs per year, covering recurring and non-recurring expenses

Equipment expenses capped at 20% of the total grant

Fixed overhead of Rs. 1 lakh per year provided to the host institution

Grant duration: 5 years, with continuation after superannuation possible if the host institution agrees
Eligibility

Senior scientists and engineers aged 45–65 years holding regular academic or research positions in recognized Indian institutions

Indian nationals or Overseas Citizens of India employed in India with sufficient service to cover the project duration plus one additional year

Current J. C. Bose fellows or grantees may apply only if their ongoing term concludes within six months; applicants who have completed three terms are ineligible

Nominations must come through the ANRF online portal, endorsed by Heads of Institutions, Universities, or Presidents of National Science Academies
Assessment and Selection

Selection is conducted annually by a Search-cum-Selection Committee comprising technical experts

Evaluation considers research outcomes, publications, patents, technology transfers, awards, and overall contributions to science and engineering
