Deadline: 09-Dec-2025
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) invites applications from qualified Nigerians for the 2026 Edition of the Chief S.L. Edu Memorial Ph.D. Research Grant to support research in natural sciences, social sciences, environmental law, and related fields as well as promote sustainable natural resource management in Nigeria.
The 2025 theme, “Restoring Ecosystems and Strengthening Climate Resilience for Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” aligns with NCF’s vision of fostering sustainable societies where people and nature thrive.
Through its mission, NCF works to conserve biodiversity, promote sustainable resource use, and implement programs that address climate change, pollution, and the responsible use of natural resources in collaboration with communities and stakeholders.
The grant aims to support Ph.D. candidates whose research aligns with NCF’s mission and the annual theme. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens holding an M.Sc degree or its equivalent in Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, or Law (Environmental Law/Protection) related to natural and environmental resource management.
They must also have secured admission into a Nigerian university towards a Ph.D. degree in any of these related fields. The selection process will emphasize the quality and relevance of research proposals, ensuring they contribute to NCF’s vision and mission.
Each applicant must submit a 3,000-word project proposal detailing the title, introduction or statement of problem, objectives, methodology, and expected outputs. In addition, a 200-word justification highlighting the proposal’s relevance to the theme and biodiversity conservation is required.
A progress report from the project supervisor, written on official letterhead, must also be included to describe the researcher’s progress, the supervisor’s role in the review process, and the proposal’s relevance to the grant objectives. Applicants are reminded that a reference letter is not a substitute for this progress report.
The application must also include a two-page curriculum vitae outlining research and work experience, along with a scanned copy of the admission letter. Submissions must be completed online, as no paper applications will be considered. Each applicant is limited to one proposal, and all submissions will be acknowledged by NCF, although only successful candidates will be contacted.
The deadline for applications is December 9, 2025.
