Deadline: 31-Aug-2025
The Inlaks Research and Travel Grant supports PhD scholars currently enrolled at Indian universities to undertake a short-term research visit to the King’s India Institute at King’s College London. This visit is intended to help students collect materials, use academic facilities, and consult with experts relevant to their research.
The grant provides financial assistance for a maximum duration of three months. It includes travel reimbursement of up to USD 1,000 and a monthly maintenance allowance of up to USD 2,220. Additional support includes up to USD 500 for materials and literature, and up to USD 500 for health-related expenses, all reimbursable on actuals. On arrival, King’s College London also offers GBP 1,000 for the entire duration of the visit.
The visit must take place between January and June 2026 and last no longer than three months. At least one of the two selected grantees will be required to work with a core academic faculty member at the King’s India Institute. Materials collected during the visit must be shared with the scholar’s home institution and must acknowledge support from the Inlaks-King’s India Institute Studentship. A final report in a specified format must be submitted to the Inlaks Foundation within a month of the scholar’s return.
Eligible applicants must be Indian passport holders residing in India and born on or after January 1, 1990. They must have been registered in a PhD program for at least two but not more than three years and should hold first-class degrees at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Their research must fall within the Humanities and Social Sciences. Applicants must also show evidence of positive communication with the experts they intend to work with at King’s.
Applicants can apply for only one of either the Inlaks-King’s India Institute Studentship or the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant in any given year.
Selection will be conducted in two stages: an initial desk review of submitted applications, followed by online personal interviews of shortlisted candidates. Shortlisted applicants will be notified by the last week of September 2025, and interviews will take place in mid-October 2025.
