The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) has launched the applications for the 12th Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development (CALP) to provide and enhance necessary knowledge and capacity to young leaders from government bodies and other stakeholders in order to facilitate and enable their switching to Sustainable Consumption and Production/circular economy in Central Asia and Afghanistan.

The 12th CALP will be mainly focused on sustainable consumption and production, circular/ green economy, management of water and energy resources and their significant impact on food supply and security, ecosystem services and biodiversity conservation, transition towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient and circular economy.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of Central Asia countries and Afghanistan will be discussed from the point of view of recovery of economies, environment, and adaptation to the new challenges in relation to the health and education systems.

The CALP provides a neutral regional youth’ dialogue platform for discussing water cooperation, climate change, energy efficiency, as well as coronavirus pandemic and its impact in the context of sustainable development of Central Asia and Afghanistan.

Among the CALP participants are representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs), state, and academic sectors. Separately, it is worth noting that the CALP graduates are actively involved into activities in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. This contributes to strengthening the role and voice of young professionals in regional cooperation.

Preference will be given to the applicants between the ages of 28 to 40, with an appropriate working experience in at least 3 of the following fields: environmental protection, sustainable consumption and production, green economy, circular economy, water management, climate change and sustainable development.
