Deadline: 24-Sep-2025
The European Commission (EC) is currently accepting applications for Steel Research Projects. These proposals should contribute to one or more of the objectives set by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS). Applicants must clearly indicate which parts of their project correspond to which objectives.
The key objectives include developing new, sustainable, and low-carbon steelmaking and finishing processes, creating advanced steel grades and applications, promoting resource conservation, environmental protection, and circular economy practices, and improving workforce management and working conditions.
A total of EUR 40 million is available for this call. Of that, EUR 20.5 million is specifically allocated to Steel Research Projects.
Projects are expected to begin at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 1-3 and reach TRL 4-5 by the end. Even if a few activities go beyond TRL 5, the proposal should still qualify as a research project if most work ends at TRL 4-5. Applicants must also assess the potential industrial, economic, social, and environmental impact of their proposals.
To be eligible, applicants must be legal entities—either public or private—that engage in or significantly contribute to research and technological development (RTD). They must also be based in either EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories) or countries associated with the RFCS.
