Call for EOIs: WASH, Climate Action and Environment Programme (Uganda)

#image_title

Deadline: 20-Nov-2025

UNICEF The program aims to ensure that by 2030, more children and their families live in clean, climate-resilient, and sustainable environments, with access to affordable, safely managed water and sanitation services while practicing safe hygiene behaviors.

The initiative focuses on five essential preconditions to achieve this vision. These include increased access to safe water for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene; availability of safely managed sanitation facilities and elimination of open defecation; strengthened capacity of children and families to adapt to climate change; resilience of essential child services to environmental impacts; and reduced environmental pollution and degradation. By addressing these factors, the program seeks to create a cumulative impact that ensures a healthier and more sustainable environment for all children and families in the region.

The program’s approach emphasizes that when water sources are uncontaminated, affordable, and functional, and when schools and health facilities have inclusive, climate-resilient WASH infrastructure, children and families are more likely to use safe water. Similarly, improved latrines and handwashing facilities, supported by consistent hygiene promotion, encourage families to practice safe sanitation and hygiene behaviors. Climate-resilient social services and household practices further help children and families adapt to environmental challenges, while adherence to environmental and waste management standards reduces pollution and degradation.

Prospective partners contributing to this initiative will work toward three main outcomes. First, the government and stakeholders at national and sub-national levels will strengthen their capacity to deliver climate-resilient, safely managed water services, including in schools and healthcare facilities. Second, they will support the delivery of sustainable sanitation and hygiene services and promote safe practices at home, in schools, and in healthcare settings. Third, children, adolescents, and young people, along with government stakeholders, will engage in positive practices that promote climate-resilient social services and reduce environmental impact.

Through this comprehensive approach, UNICEF aims to create an environment where children’s rights to clean, safe, and sustainable living conditions are fully realized, fostering a healthier and more resilient future for Uganda’s Central Region.
