Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (8th Operational Phase) – Djibouti

Deadline: 31-Dec-2025

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is inviting proposals from civil society organizations and grassroots community groups.

The programme supports community-led projects that address global environmental challenges while advancing local sustainable development. It focuses on areas such as biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable land management, protection of international waters, and the reduction of harmful chemicals and waste.

This call encourages initiatives that provide practical, innovative solutions rooted in community participation. Projects should contribute to improving climate resilience at the local level, promote access to affordable and sustainable energy for household and economic use, and support environmentally responsible livelihoods, including agricultural production, processing, and marketing. Each project must incorporate gender considerations and actively involve young people, ensuring that benefits are shared equitably across the community.

Eligible proposals must align with national strategies and frameworks, including the National Action Plan for Sustainable Environment (NAPE) and the funding priorities outlined in the current GEF SGP operational phase. Projects must show strategic relevance, demonstrate clear environmental and social impact, and be designed collaboratively with the local community.

Projects may run for a maximum duration of 24 months and are required to provide at least 50% co-financing, divided equally between cash contributions and in-kind support. This co-financing model strengthens community ownership and long-term sustainability of project outcomes.

By supporting community-driven environmental action, the GEF Small Grants Programme helps local organizations become catalysts for resilience, sustainability, and improved quality of life—empowering communities to protect their natural resources while building a stronger, more sustainable future.
