Call for Applications: Production Award Grant Program

Submissions open for Matla Grants Program 2025

Deadline: 31-Oct-2025

The Production Award Grant Program supports young artists and writers below the age of 35 (born between January 1991 and December 2010), from the Arab region.

The grants support a wide range of productions across different disciplines. In Performing Arts, they fund the development and production of dance, theater, multidisciplinary projects, and other performing arts, with grants of up to €8,500. In Visual Arts, they cover the creation and production of artworks, exhibitions, installations, art books, and comics, including sculpture, engraving, photography, light art, video art, virtual reality, immersive and interactive works, and multidisciplinary art, also with grants up to €8,500.

In Literature, they support the creation and publication of novels, memoirs, biographies, graphic novels, short stories, poetry collections, and theater texts, offering grants up to €6,500. Music & Sound Art grants fund the creation and recording of music albums, experimental sound projects, sound installations, live concerts, and music-related visuals, with grants up to €8,500. For Cinema, grants support the production and post-production of short, medium-length, and feature films, including fictional, documentary, animated, and experimental works, with awards up to €13,000.

Applicants eligible for these grants must be born between January 1991 and December 2010 and originate from an Arab country, regardless of ethnicity, citizenship status, or current residency. Previous recipients of the Production Awards may reapply if their prior grant has been closed and two rounds have passed since the last award. Specific roles are required for application submission: the film director for cinema projects, the theater/performance director or choreographer for performing arts, the writer for literature, the main musician, composer, or sound artist for music/sound art, and the main artist or curator for visual arts.

Once selected, grantees will receive agreements detailing the grant’s scope, conditions, and duration, along with documentation regarding intellectual property rights. The first installment, representing 70% of the total grant, is paid upon signing the agreement, while the remaining 30% is paid after submission of all required reports and project documentation. Agreements must be signed within 45 days of receipt or the grant will be canceled. Project completion deadlines may be extended once, with limits depending on the discipline, and any cancellation will result in reimbursement obligations for the grantee. Grantees must provide two guarantors, at least one being an expert aware of the project, and must cite Culture Resource in all outputs and publicity.

Applications are assessed by an independent jury of three members per discipline, based on the quality and relevance of the project, originality, budget practicality, and feasibility of completion. Applications must be completed in Arabic, with English used only in specified fields, and all documents submitted in PDF, JPEG, or PNG formats. Incomplete applications or those lacking required attachments will be disregarded. Only one project per applicant may be submitted per round, and grants may not be used to purchase machinery or equipment. Grantees under 18 must include a birth certificate, parental approval, and the parent/guardian’s identification. Application closes on 31 October 2025.
