Deadline: 02-Jul-20
IREX’s Center for Applied Learning and Impact, KaziRemote, and the Kenya Ministry of Information, Communications, and Technology are recruiting a group of youth (ages 18 to 29) who reside in Mombasa County, Kenya, to participate in a virtual training.
The training will prepare participants to work on short-term online job opportunities or virtual gigs and help them harness their skills for decent sustained careers or entrepreneurship.
The training will inform research IREX is conducting to understand how to support skills development focused on preparing youth for decent and consistent virtual gig work in Kenya. Participants consent to the use of data collected from them to inform learning on youth employment and virtual gigs; personally identifiable information will only be shared with the research team to inform learning about individual experience in the virtual gigs initiative.
Who is the training for?
The training is open to youth between the ages of 18 and 29 years old from diverse backgrounds. Youth should have an interest in learning transcription (converting audio to text). They can also have either some or no previous virtual work experience.
- Youth with experience: Have had some experience doing virtual gigs while living in Mombasa County within the past 12 months (e.g., work performed remotely on a computer or mobile device such as transcription, data entry, graphic design).
- Youth with interest: Have an interest in obtaining virtual gigs (doing online work), but have no previous experience.
Where will the training be held?
The training and support will be conducted online using online platforms like Zoom and Slack. Participants will need consistent and regular internet access throughout the training.
How will participants be selected?
Participants will be selected by a committee of IREX, KaziRemote, and the Kenya Ministry of Information, Communications, and Technology after all applications are reviewed. Gender balance and representation of marginalized groups will be prioritized. Selection will be based on the criteria for the two groups of participants described below.
