The Goethe-Institut has launched the applications for the Artist-In-Residence Exchange Program or AIR to support and encourage contemporary visual arts and promoting international exchange between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur.
The program offers young and emerging artists the opportunity to gain experience regarding their own artistic practice and to build an international network.
The program is one of its kind in Malaysia and offers a bilateral exchange between the two host countries.
Funding Information
- The residency program provides the chosen artist with the flight costs, accommodation, a studio and a monthly grant of 1000 Euro. After the residency the artist has the opportunity to present their work in an exhibition at basis e.V. which gets supported with 500 Euro.
Eligibility Criteria
- This program is intended for young artists who live and work in Malaysia. The applicants should be successful graduates of an art college and have several years of artistic experience. To be fluent in English is a further requirement.
- Malaysian artists can apply for the AIR program by submitting:
- this online application form
- a letter of motivation with date and signature
- artist Bio and CV
- digitalized work samples and a description of site-specific projects.
Selection Process
- An independent jury in Malaysia awards up to five candidates and proposes them to the partner-city, Frankfurt. The jury in Frankfurt will select the most suitable candidate and invite him or her to participate in the residence program.
