Deadline: 17-Apr-22
Proposals are now invited for Youth Entrepreneurship Program in Myanmar.
AFDA seeks partners that promote youth entrepreneurship in agribusiness models. This includes models that provide technical and managerial capacity building to new as well as existing youth entrepreneurs on either requirement to start a business and/or to boost the existing businesses of youth M/SMEs.
AFDA will identify existing and potential market opportunities; incentivize firms to invest in their operations and supply chains, while pulling smallholder farmers and rural participants, many in ethnically divided areas, into expanded markets.
AFDA will facilitate systemic change by using adaptive management and stakeholder-led processes to facilitate improved conditions and incentives for markets to work better for poor and marginalized populations. This will result in strengthened market linkages and improved service provision, input supply, and post-harvest value addition to meet market demand in a conflict sensitive manner.
Objectives
- Limited access to youth-inclusive financing opportunities, particularly for aspiring and current agri-business entrepreneurs
- Minimal connections to local markets, business networks/associations, enterprises, and NGOs
- Lack of information and low exposure to emerging market opportunities, skills training, and employment opportunities
- Missing demand-based skills (technical, soft and entrepreneurship skills) required to enter and succeed in the market system.
- Youth see on-farm employment as non-viable and unexciting due to the use of traditional farming methods and lack of information about local markets. Youth reported that modern farming approaches and incorporation of ICT initiatives would foster interest in the sector.
- Constrained access to technology and digital skills and Limited farming equipment & storage.
- Missing mentors, role models, business development services and exposure to businesses.
- Barriers specific to youth in conflict-affected areas include lack of secure land ownership and political instability Climate Change.
Outcomes
(AFDA) will facilitate the transformation of agriculture and food systems by increasing productivity, inclusiveness, and competitiveness of key sectors in the Zone of Influence: Shan, Kachin, Mandalay, Sagaing, and Magway. It has four intended outcomes:
- Outcome 1: Increased economic interdependence among market actors of different ethnic backgrounds.
