Embrace is excited to announce call for proposals for the 2021 Artist To Facilitator program.
Embrace’s “Artist to Facilitator” is a training cohort for local artists who self identify as disabled or neurodivergent.
Four local artists will be selected to take part in a training artist over the summer, and then in autumn will be facilitating free community programs as a final practicum.
Program Details
- The training program will involve:
- 16 hours of direct learning as a cohort over the summer
- At home learning assignments (That can be completed in your own learning style. Strong written communication is not required to participate in this program)
- 1:1 mentorship
- Co-facilitating a sessional class for the community in your chosen art form in autumn. Note: Artists will receive payment for the classes they teach during their practicum at Embrace’s standard instructor rates.
- The program will be run by Embrace’s Executive Director, Tiffany Tjosvold, and Director of Music Programming, Erin Koop.
- Tiffany Tjosvold (BFA, BEd) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who has been working to build accessibility in the arts for the past decade; this pursuit began in response to her own experience as an artist living with chronic illness.
- Erin Koop (BMT MTA) is a music therapist who specializes in working with children and youth of all abilities.
- In order to provide a more well-rounded training experience, additional neurodivergent and/or disabled teaching artists will be sharing their insights about their practice and their work with other organizations.
- Participants will also receive Basic First Aid training.
Eligibility Criteria
- Embrace’s “Artist to Facilitator” is for local artists who self identify as disabled or neurodivergent. Participants must be over the age of 18 to apply.
- No previous formal arts training is required, as this program is in place for artists who may face significant barriers to conventional training opportunities.
- The applicant must have an emerging or established arts practice that they want to share with the community.
- This could include: dance, music, theatre, visual and/or tactile art, writing, or multidisciplinary work.
Due to the nature of this program, all applicants must be located in the Greater Victoria area. Embrace primarily works out of the traditional territory (Esquimalt and Songhees Nations) and W_SÁNEC Peoples, and this is where the Artist to Facilitator program will be taking place.
