Funding for Historic Buildings & Landscapes in the United Kingdom

Call for Applications: AL-Invest Green Program 2025

Deadline: 01-Sep-2025

The Wolfson Foundation supports organisations that manage sites of outstanding historic, architectural, and cultural significance, focusing on public access and engagement. They provide grants for conservation and restoration work, interpretation, and education spaces.

Projects should aim to increase visitor numbers to historic sites, improve public engagement and understanding of sites with historical and cultural importance, or enhance the future sustainability of the organisation.

Grant amounts start at £15,000, with typical awards ranging between £15,000 and £100,000. Eligible projects can include restoration or conservation of historic building fabric and excellent interpretation of historic buildings, landscapes, and collections.

To be eligible, sites must be operated by a registered charity or local authority. They should be open and accessible to the public for most of the year, with a reasonable number of visitors, acknowledging that COVID-19 has affected attendance. Sites should be listed as Grade I, II, or Scheduled Monument in England and Wales; Category A, B, or Scheduled Monument in Scotland; or Grade A, B+, or Scheduled Monument in Northern Ireland.

Projects that are not eligible include purchasing land or existing buildings (including freehold), grants given directly to individuals, grants passed through conduit organisations, heritage assets under private ownership, and costs for overheads, maintenance, or VAT.
