The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is pleased to launch an open call for Creatives, Cultural Artists and Artisans Innovation Challenge to support the creative sector through a special purpose vehicle / a dedicated creatives arts facility that will provide a more structured approach to creatives, including catalytic financing, and business/technical advisory services, promoting south-to-south co-operation, amongst others.
Culture and the creative industries, which include arts and crafts, advertising, design, entertainment, architecture, books, media and software, among others, are a vital force in accelerating human development. If well-nurtured, the creative economy can trigger sustainable human development and socio-economic transformation and growth. The potential for the industry notwithstanding, it faces numerous challenges both at a micro and macro level including financing.
- Performing Arts and Distribution: Music (Song writing and Composition), Audio recording, Comedy, Drama, Festivals, Theater, Spaces for rehearsals.
- Audio Visual and Interactive Media: Film, Video, Television & Radio Production, Internet Streaming, Internet PodcastIng, Video Gaming, Computer Games, Animation.
- Visual Arts and Crafts Books and Press: Crafts, Painting, Sculpturing, Books, Newspapers, Magazines, Photography, Videography weaving, Galleries, Art markets.
- Books and Press: Books, Newspapers, Magazines, Book Fairs, Libraries.
- Design and Creative Services: Fashion, Graphics, Interior, (rind saving, Architecture, Advertising.
- Content Distribution: Earned Media, Owned Media, Paid Media.
- Inadequate recognition and organization as a legal business/entity
- Financial illiteray and lack of access to funding
- Intellectual propperty and copyright issues
- Lack of branding and marketing what they do
- A disconnect between the creative and the markets for their content
- Inadequate coordination and weak industry self-regulation
Funding Information
- Grants range between $3,000 and $5,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individual creatives of any gender and age, legally living and operating in Uganda. Women are encouraged to apply.
- Associations can also apply on behalf of verifiable targeted individual creatives who may be constrained to apply individually.
