The U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan has announced the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program 2020-2021.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has announced a grant for developers and providers of business products and services, unions and associations of entrepreneurs in eastern Ukraine.
With this announcement the United Nations Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme enunciates grant call for proposals for NGOs, associations and public unions of providers and developers of business products and services focused on the development and support of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (hereinafter – MSMEs), unions and associations of MSMEs in priority sectors of economy, for the implementation of the projects in the territories of Donetsk, Luhansk (government-controlled areas) and selected areas of Zaporizhzhia oblasts (Berdiansk, Prymorsk, Orikhiv, Hulyaipole, Yakymivka, Bilmak, Melitopol, Tokmak raions).
The United Nations Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme (UN RPP) is implemented by four United Nations agencies: the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Thematic Areas
The grant call is conducted under to the following thematic areas:
- Lot 1
- Programmes and projects of local business service providers aimed at strengthening their capacity to develop and support of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Luhansk, Donetsk, and selected raions of Zaporizhzhia oblasts;
- Lot 2
- Programmes and projects aimed at the development of associations and unions of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, registered and operating in the abovementioned oblasts and raions within the priority sectors of economy.
The Programme is supported by twelve international partners: the European Union, the European Investment Bank, as well as the governments of the United Kingdom, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Japan.
The United Nations Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme activities are grouped according to the following key components, which correspond to the priority needs of the region:
- Component I: Economic Recovery and Restoration of Critical Infrastructure
- Component II: Local Governance and Decentralization Reform
- Component III: Community Security and Social Cohesion.
Funding Information
- It is expected that each of the winning project proposals will be funded from $ 5,000 to $ 25,000 in UAH equivalent, however project proposals with any budget declared will be considered by the selection committee.
- It is expected that the duration of the proposed projects will not exceed four to five months.
- The implementation of the project shall begin by June 16, 2020 at the latest.
- The duration of the project is no later than December 20, 2020.
- Requirements for participants of the contest and territory of the Contest
For Lot 1, public and charitable organizations, unions and associations of entrepreneurs providing services to support MSMEs; for Lot 2, unions and associations of entrepreneurs within the priority sectors of economy. Organizations seeking to compete in Lot 1 and 2 must meet the following general requirements:
- be officially registered for at least 1 year non-profit or charitable legal entity (non-profit codes 0032, 0034, 0036, 0038, 0039, 0048);
- be prepared and have proven organizational, technical and human capacity to develop, organize and implement activities throughout the project area stated in the Call for Proposals;
- be innovative in their activities, be driven by the achievement of sustainable development goals, follow a gender-based approach and zero-discrimination principles.
NGOs whose applications are aimed at meeting the specific needs of women in business are encouraged to participate in the grants contest.
Requirements to project team:
- The project team should at least consist of: a project manager (responsible for the overall coordination of project implementation and reporting to UN RPP), an accountant (responsible for accounting and financial reporting), and those directly involved in the implementation of the project;
- Higher education or specialized postgraduate professional education in project target areas and / or project management, fluency in Ukrainian is desirable for project manager;
- Accountant must have higher education in accounting and / or qualification certificates and diplomas, accounting experience of at least two years;
- For other members of the team, no less than one year of specialized professional education and work experience in the relevant sector are required;
- If recruitment of specialists is only envisaged when the project proposal is supported, the key requirements to such team members should be indicated in the narrative part of the application form (profile education, work experience, etc.). Candidates for project team members should be submitted to UN RPP for approval if the grant is awarded.
Expected Results
The call is aimed to support the following initiatives:
- building and strengthening capacity of business service providers – organizations or associations providing services or developing final products for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, including:
- consulting and training;
- legal support and protection of entrepreneurs’ rights;
- financial services and accounting;
- logistics;
- information technology;
- marketing;
- advertising and business communications
- translation;
- conference services, etc.
- capacitation and development of MSME associations in the following priority sectors of economy:
- Ceramics (not supported in Zaporizhzhia oblast);
- Textiles and Clothing;
- Hospitality;
- Food Processing;
- Grain and Oilseed;
- Dairy and Beef;
- Poultry and Eggs (not supported in Zaporizhzhia Oblast);
- Industry and Engineering Services (exclusively in the above mentioned raions of Zaporizhzhia Oblast and in Manhush, Volnovakha, and Nikolsky raions, and the city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast);
- Fruit and Vegetables (exclusively in the above mentioned raions of Zaporizhzhia oblast and in Manhush, Volnovakha, and Nikolsky raions, and the city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast).
