The West Virginia Natural Resources Conservation Service, an agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has announced the potential availability of cooperative agreements for the purpose of leveraging NRCS resources to address natural resource issues throughout West Virginia.
The purpose is to leverage NRCS and partner resources to:
- Improve soil health.
- Improve water quality.
- Provide habitat for local wildlife species of concern.
- Improve the environmental and economic performance of agricultural lands.
Emphasis will be placed on projects that provide:
- Conservation and Farm Bill Technical Assistance through:
- direct assistance to clients through conservation planning efforts; develops and delivers conservation plans, grazing plans, nutrient management plans, wildlife plans, and/or forestry management plans.
- practice implementation technical assistance to land users for financial assistance, easement, and technical assistance programs; activities include developing conservation practice designs and documentation of applied non-engineering conservation practices.
- Conducting follow-up activities with clients through contract status reviews to determine success of conservation practices, discussion and documentation of operation and maintenance needs with clients, and other review activities to assist NRCS in maintaining an effective conservation improvement program.
Funding Information
- The total amount of Federal funding the agency expects to award through this opportunity is $1,000,000.
- The funding floor for this opportunity $75,000, and the funding ceiling is $450,000.
- Start Dates and Performance Periods Projects may be between two and five years in duration. Applicants should plan their projects based on a project start date of September 15, 2020.

- Public and State-controlled institutions of higher education
