Applications are open for Red Harvest Scholarship that is an intensive online lab on Femicides, Hate Crimes, Youth and Violence. A workshop of narrative and theoretical tools for journalists and editors of print media in Latin America.
Red Harvest and the “Independent Journalism” program of the Open Society Foundation will grant scholarships to journalists and editors from Latin America for online theoretical-practical training in coverage on youth, inequality and poverty, violence against women, hate crimes and attacks against the LGTTBI community.
The objective of the scholarship is to accompany the professionals in the process of producing and publishing journalistic articles with a perspective on Human Rights for five months. All the articles produced during the same will be published in Red Harvest and in the media in which the fellows work.
The scholarship is aimed at dynamic, sensitive and active journalists and editors in Latin America who work in print media (printed or digital), able to be autonomous and continue with the keys of the project.
The training will give them tools to think about the problems and narrate them. It will also allow applicants to strengthen relationships with their colleagues, with civil society organizations, universities, human rights organizations and other sources. Twelve (12) scholarships will be awarded to journalists and 8 (eight) to editors from Latin America. The modality of course is remote. The scholarship begins with a face-to-face meeting on June 4, 5 and 6, 2018 in Buenos Aires.
Benefits
The Scholarship covers:
- Stay and meals in Buenos Aires during the days of the face-to-face meeting.
- A percentage of the air or land passage according to the distance to Buenos Aires (consult by email).
- The virtual courses for five months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Being over 18 years.
- Work in some graphic or digital media.
- Current documentation to travel to the conference in Buenos Aires.
- Availability for the virtual course.
- Comply with the schedule of courses and participation. If applicants do not do so, they must leave their place for a fellow on the waiting list.
How to Apply
To apply applicants must send them the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae in word or pdf format
- Links to three journalistic articles of your authorship or edition published in a medium.
- A letter of recommendation and commitment of participation signed by the editor / director of the medium with letterhead (you can download a model via given website).
- Complete the registration form. In order to send it you need to have a Gmail account. Then it will be necessary to access some functions of the online course.
