Applications are open for Morocco Forum for Adolescent & Youth Human Rights ‘Driving Sustainable Development’ – a historic, forward-looking and universal agenda that has the potential to save and transform the lives of billions of people by lifting them out of poverty, advancing their human rights and protecting our planet.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals have committed to improving quality education, decent work and economic growth, achieving good health (including sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights), promoting gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment, and have reaffirmed that people are at the center of sustainable development.
The Morocco Forum will be held in Marrakesh from 8-9 December 2016 to help create a well-articulated and strengthened CSO movement in Africa. It will be a platform for young people from the African Continent, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), high level United Nations officials, celebrities and Moroccan youth, to under the auspices of the National Observatory for Children’s Rights (Morocco), meet and have a discourse on the theme ‘adolescent and youth human rights driving sustainable development’.
Benefits
- Selected participants will be fully funded to participate in the Forum – air transport, accommodation and meals will be covered.
- Some of the selected young people may also take part in a capacity building workshop scheduled for 6-7 December 2016.
Eligibility Criteria
One passionate young person from the selected Arab and African countries already working to promote the ideals of this Forum will be selected.
Participants will be selected based on the following eligibility requirements:
- Must be at least 16 and not older than 30 years by 31 December 2016
- Availability between 8-9 December 2016
- Must be a national and living in any of the following African and Arab countries mentioned below
- Must represent a youth-led organization, or at least, be renowned for working with youth
- Must have basic knowledge of the following: The 1994 Cairo Declaration, ICPD Beyond 2014 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development, Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda.
- Must have capacities for the coordination, mobilization and dialogue with young people and/or must be experienced in advocacy processes.
- Must have some basic knowledge sharing skills
- Must have interest and a demonstrated commitment to ensuring young people’s SRHR (including access to Comprehensive Sexuality Education)
- Young people representing diverse backgrounds and groups are encouraged to apply, including adolescents and young people with disabilities.
Preference will be given to applicants who:
- Demonstrate themselves as emerging leaders through their work or volunteer experience, community activities etc.
- Are committed to return to their home countries to share what they have learned with other young people and follow up on the recommendations from the Forum
- Applicants who have ties with other CSO sectors that go beyond youth movement(s)
