The Thomson Reuters Foundation is offering a training course for Ukrainian journalists on coverage of LGBT + rights.
An intensive four-day seminar, held in Kyiv, Ukraine, from Tuesday 03 December to Friday 06 December 2019, will enhance the ability of journalists to report on LGBT + rights. It will address important journalism, security, journalism and new perspectives and facilitate the discussion and support of specific stories.
The seminar involves a combination of specialized knowledge and hands-on training with a focus on preparing striking stories for wide spread.
The workshop should not be considered as a one-off. They hope that all the journalists selected to participate will continue to address this issue after the seminar.
At the same time, 15 practitioners of civil society will receive training on LGBT + rights. On Day 4 of the seminar, they will bring together journalists and civil society participants together to participate in joint training.
Funding
- Selected applicants (outside the capital) will receive a full scholarship to cover tuition, travel, accommodation and meals. Local participants are expected to cover their own travel expenses but will be given free tuition.
- Selected participants will receive moderate funding to help them realize their stories.
Eligibility Criteria
- This is an opportunity for Ukrainian journalists who work for well-known media companies (including online media).
- Applicants must be full-time or full-time journalists.
- They must be able to demonstrate their dedication to the career of a journalist in their home country and have at least two years of professional experience.
- The program looks for participants who:
- have strong motivation to research issues and report on LGBT + rights;
- highly motivated to help transform existing paradigms;
- open to innovative ways of thinking;
- interested in personal development.
