The U.S. Embassy in Georgia has announced the opening of the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program Competition for 2019.
The Commission, co-chaired by the Deputy Chief of Mission and the Public Affairs Officer, will award grants of up to 50,000 U.S. Dollars to indigenous Georgian non-profit, non-governmental, media, and educational organizations that support the following initiatives:
- Economic Growth (encouraging entrepreneurship, stimulating regional growth, developing market-relevant skills, boosting export capacity, mobilizing youth);
- Accountable and Responsible Governance (expanding institutional strategic planning and communications capacity, training in anti-corruption, assisting in election reform);
- Rule of Law (strengthening the development of criminal justice and legal agencies, increasing community outreach on prevailing justice issues, promoting public service in legal institutions and agencies, assistance with judicial reform);
- A More Informed and Engaged Citizenry (capacity building in media faculties, increasing media literacy and advocacy, further developing online media, advancing ethics in journalism);
- Civic Engagement (stimulating critical thinking among youth, partnering for social integration of minority groups, offering leadership education, promoting democratic practices and principles, empowering women and girls).
Important Note: Organizations applying for awards valued over $25,000 are required to obtain a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and to register in the System for Award Management (Sam.gov). Applicants failing to meet these criteria will not be eligible for the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program. Registration instructions are enclosed as a power point presentation.
