Australian Embassy in Iraq launches Direct Aid Program

Deadline: 12-Oct-2025

The Australian Embassy in Iraq has announced that applications are open for its Direct Aid Program, offering small grants to support locally driven community development projects.

Eligible organisations are registered Iraqi NGOs or community-based groups with a track record in delivering development or humanitarian initiatives, and must not be governmental bodies or individuals.

Projects funded under this scheme should be locally designed, high impact, and capable of completion within a year. Priority is given to initiatives that empower women and children, respond to climate change or environmental challenges, support psychosocial care or disability inclusion, or foster social cohesion and minority rights. Examples of eligible activities include community health, sanitation, small infrastructure like solar lighting, improvements in disability access, or provision of essential supplies to vulnerable groups.

The funding ceiling is AUD 58,500 per project, and applicants must submit detailed proposals and budgets in Australian dollars. Approved grants are disbursed in Iraqi dinar, adjusted at prevailing exchange rates, and strict accountability standards apply. Grant recipients must maintain accurate financial records, submit midterm and final reports, and meet agreed performance standards.

Interested organisations are encouraged to attend upcoming webinars slated for early September, where the program will be explained and questions addressed.
