The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) is offering grant opportunities to support a broad range of community-based programs and services that contribute to the well-being of Saskatchewan residents.
One major focus of the funding is the healthy growth and development of children and youth. Programs that provide young children with a strong foundation and prepare youth for the future are prioritized. Initiatives targeting those who face financial, accessibility, or other barriers receive higher consideration. Supported outcomes include the development of children’s emotional, social, and communication skills, increased physical activity, participation in learning and recreation, improved mental health, and better parenting knowledge among caregivers.
Another focus is promoting individual and community well-being for people of all ages. The CIF supports programs that encourage healthy lifestyles, inclusivity, and community engagement. These programs aim to help individuals stay active, adopt healthy eating, prevent and address social issues such as addiction or bullying, and feel a stronger sense of belonging. Communities are encouraged to pursue activities that foster reconciliation, cultural understanding, and social pride.
The fund also supports nonprofit and community leadership by offering grants for training and capacity building. These initiatives help nonprofit staff, board members, and volunteers improve governance and service delivery. The goal is to ensure they have the skills necessary to lead, manage programs effectively, and make a tangible impact in their communities.
Funding is available up to $35,000 for local programs that serve a single community or region, and up to $50,000 for provincial programs that either operate in multiple regions or have province-wide participation. Provincial applicants must clearly demonstrate how their project qualifies at that level.
To be eligible, applicants must be an incorporated Saskatchewan nonprofit in good standing, or a municipality, First Nation, health region, school, or school board proposing community-led programs. All applicants must also be in good standing with CIF, with no outstanding reports or repayments.
